August 24-25: GAZA Summer conference in the beautiful mountains of Helen on the main tourist road at the new Holiday Inn Express & Conference Center. Through a partnership with GPA (Georgia Planning Association), CM credits will be available for AICP planners. To register for the conference, go to www.cviog.uga.edu/gaza We have been informed that the hotel may be full - walkable nearby hotels include the Country Inn & Suites; Baymont Inn & Suites; and America's Best Value Inn.
September 27-29: GPA (Georgia Planning Association) conference in downtown Columbus at the Columbus Convention & Trade Center. Registration coming soon. A block of hotel rooms has been reserved at the Columbus Marriott at 800 Front Ave. Call 800-228-9290 and ask for the GPA group rate of $129, available for reservations placed through September 5.
November 14: Planning & zoning training for Appointed Board members (Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals) in Calhoun. The event, to be held at the Gordon County Agricultural Center from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM, is a collaboration of GPA, Northwest Georgia Regional Commission, GPMF, and DCA. Cost is FREE but space is limited - Max 50 participants. If you would like to reserve a spot, contact Richard Osborne at 706-253-8852.
February 8-9, 2018: GAZA Winter conference at Georgia Veterans State Park on Lake Blackshear near Cordele. Activities to do include golf, boating, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, frisbee golf, bicycling, hiking, and the nearby SAM Shortline Excursion Train. For more info, www.gastateparks.org/georgiaveterans

Did you know that, as a GAZA member, you, your child, or your grandchild in college/university can apply for the $1,000 annual Betty Gecoma scholarship? Please check out the Betty Gecoma scholarship page for an application. If you or your child/grandchild is approved, you/he/she can re-apply each year to possibly receive additional funds.
